Putting on the Glitz

If Jesus was real, how come he doesn’t have a big glitzy tomb?

Like Muhammad, say.

Or Buddha, there’s bits of him all over the far east in various stupas.

Wheesht! Wi’ a midden in yer toty heid, ’tis nae gret supprise ye haver on aboot wee things of sma bulk!

Tak tent o time ere time taks tent of thee.

Peace, Bill

    Because Christianity isn’t about self-enrichment. ^.^

Xians will claim that the empty tomb is evidence of Jesus’ resurrection. That means the empty trunk of my car is evidence that a dead hooker was resurrected.

In that time, a tomb as He had was a great thing.
Besides…what matters is that His tomb is EMPTY. He left!!!
All those others are STILL IN THEIRS!!!

You saw Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, aye? The cup of a carpenter. However, there have been, and are now, sects of Christianity practiced which do not apply the immaterial lifestyle of Jesus. That is, of course, as you said, if Jesus was real.

    (insert Buddhist analogy here)

Because Christian belief is that Jesus died on Good Friday, was buried and then rose from the Dead on Easter Sunday.

40 days later he bodily ascended into Heaven – so there would be no body for relics or to entomb.

No idea. But there are churches for worship. They’re far more important then a tomb. Also, no one knows where his body lies, he’s up in heaven. I’m actually an Agnostic. But i grew up in a Christian Primary School and also now in secondary school, I’m in my last year getting A* in religion. I got that last year.

I can’t remember the name of the place in Bethlehem at this precise moment. But there’s apparently Jesus’ birthplace marked with a star. You can touch and kiss it. But not be disrespectful.

The thing is though – Would the belief be any different if Jesus had a tomb? I highly doubt that people would be aloud to go inside and worship. Maybe outside, but who was to say he was actually in there?

Well, I do not think that Jesus would want a big glitzy tomb.

But it does raise an interesting question.

Here is the tomb of the messiah, the sight of miracles and His Resurrection.

And all his followers think it so unimportant that they make no mark of it, no record, no pilgrimages, no record of where it was, no memorial to what happened there.

WTF? Absolutely nothing? Why is there no mark or record of where this greatest of miracles, the entire point on which Christianity revolves, took place?

Because, unlike the two individuals that you mention, the Lord Jesus is alive and not in a tomb.

It’s like, when Joseph of Arimathea told Pilate that he was going to use his expensive new tomb to bury the body of the Lord Jesus, Pilate asked him

Why Joseph? You spent all of that money on a tomb for you and your family.

Joseph said: "No problem Pilate. It’s only for the weekend!" :o )

Not that I’m about to defend the historicity of Jesus, but not only do you have the problem of the Resurrection account when trying to argue with Christians(you can’t have a tomb for a body that supposedly ascended into heaven), but it’s also very unlikely that a poor street preacher with equally poor followers who was executed as a criminal under Roman law had the resources to do anything other than stick his body in a cave, just as it says right in the bible. The Jesus movement didn’t have any wealth or influence until several decades after his execution, and by that time the location of his original tomb and body was long gone, as it was never documented exactly WHERE they buried him in the first place.

There are lots of historical figures who we know existed that do not have big, glittzy burial sites, or any burial sites at all. There are far more effective means of arguing against Jesus’ existence than this one.

Me thinks it has to do with where the ‘body’ was buried …in that, there is no Known place for the mortal remains.

If there were one, it would not necessarily mean that this was ”The Place”, does it. it just means that ”This is the place where it is Believe his bones lay”.

Why would anyone have Need of ”A Place” anyway, given the Christan creed?

    Sash.

I am an atheist but I just have to say that Jesus was poor. He was only a carpenter (I think but i’m not exactly sure), so his family would not have been able to afford such a large tomb.

Then again….I am not sure if this question is a joke or not!XD
